JAKES : 13th Annual Jake’s Off Road Triathlon

Wata in Partnership with Nature Valley Presents the 13th Annual Jake’s Off Road Triathlon

Jamaica’s Only Off Road Triathlon Raises Funds for Breds, Treasure Beach Foundation.

Treasure Beach, St. Elizabeth (April 15, 2008): Generally known for its low key, off-the-beaten track atmosphere, Jake’s in Treasure Beach, St. Elizabeth, offers visitors and locals alike a different perspective with its annual staging of the Jake’s Off Road Triathlon, taking place this year on Sunday April 27. Now in its 13th year, the triathlon organizers are excited to announce title sponsorship from Wata, producers of Jamaica’s premium bottled water, and Nature Valley, a brand synonymous with delicious natural snack foods.

Exhilarating, challenging, one of a kind--participants will sweat in good conscience knowing that all proceeds from the entrance fee assist Breds, Treasure Beach Foundation a local, wholly volunteer supported non-profit that services needs in the community. This year proceeds will go toward the development of the Treasure Beach Sports Park - which, when developed, will house a professional football field, cricket pitch, tennis courts, playground and community center.

“We are proud to support this community fundraiser,” said David Burton brand manager of Wata. “Breds is a worthy organization to support and the triathlon, is a one of a kind sporting event in Jamaica.”

Harnessing the rugged terrain of the south coast, the triathlon begins at 7.00 am with a 500 meter sea swim at Great Bay, followed by a 25km bike race through the back roads of neighbouring communities and culminates with a 7km run to the finish line at Jake’s. A prize-giving ceremony follows at adjoining Jack Sprat Seafood and Pizza Restaurant. Prizes this year include a weekend for two at Couples, a weekend for two at Jake’s, a weekend for two at Sandals Whitehouse, a brunch for two at Strawberry Hill and a mountain bike. The event is open to individual participants and to teams; the fee is $1500 for individuals and $3000 for teams.
